How to get your license reinstated in Missouri
Checked against official Missouri sources · Last reviewed October 5, 2026
Getting a suspended or revoked Missouri license back means serving the suspension, meeting the requirements for every reason on your record, and paying the reinstatement fees. The Missouri Department of Revenue (DOR) Driver License Bureau handles reinstatement. Many drivers also need an SR-22 filed by their insurer. [1][2]
- SR-22 required?
- Yes
- Base reinstatement fee
- $20
- Keep SR-22 for

Step by step
-
Find out why your license was suspended
Check the letters DOR sent you or your driver record. You can also call DOR's 24/7 line at (573) 526-2407 or log in to your MyDMV profile. [2][3]
-
Look up the requirements for each reason
DOR's reinstatement chart lists the fee, forms, and other requirements for each reason. If your record shows more than one reason, you must meet the requirements for all of them. [2]
-
Have your insurer file an SR-22, if required
Most point, alcohol-related, and accident judgment suspensions require an SR-22 for 2 years from the start of the suspension or revocation. No-insurance suspensions require proof for 3 years from your eligible reinstatement date, and if there was no accident, an insurance card can be enough. You only need one SR-22, even if several reasons call for it. [2][4]
-
Pay every reinstatement fee
The base fee is $20. Alcohol-related actions and test refusals are $45, and a second or third no-insurance suspension is $200 or $400. Pay online by card (a 2.0% plus $0.25 convenience fee applies), in person at the Driver License Bureau in Jefferson City, or by mail to Driver License Bureau, PO Box 200, Jefferson City, MO 65105-0200. [2][5]
-
Pass the driver exam after a revocation
If your license was revoked for one year or more, you must pass the driver exams. DOR sends you an authorization letter after your fees and forms are filed. [2]
-
Confirm your status before you drive
Call (573) 526-2407 or check your MyDMV profile to make sure every requirement is met. [2][3]
After a DWI arrest or conviction
-
Request a hearing within 15 days, if you want one
You have 15 days from the date the Notice of Suspension/Revocation (Form 2385) is issued to request an administrative hearing. The suspension starts 15 days after the arrest, or 15 days after the hearing decision is mailed. If you refused a test, you can file a petition for review in the circuit court of the county of arrest. [3]
-
Know your suspension
With no alcohol offense in the past 5 years, an over-the-limit arrest brings a 90-day suspension. Otherwise it is a 1-year revocation, and refusing a test is also a 1-year revocation. Repeat DWI convictions can bring a 5-year or 10-year license denial. [3]
-
Ask about a restricted driving privilege
For a first offense in 5 years, you can request an immediate 90-day restricted privilege with an ignition interlock within 15 days of the notice, or serve 30 days and then get a 60-day restricted privilege. Drivers 21 and older need an SR-22 for either option. If your license is revoked, you may qualify for a Limited Driving Privilege instead. [6]
-
Finish SATOP, interlock, and SR-22 requirements
You must complete the Substance Awareness Traffic Offender Program (SATOP), and the SATOP agency files proof with DOR. An interlock is required if you have more than one alcohol or drug contact, or for a first offense with a BAC of .15 or more or injury or property damage, and it must stay installed at least 6 months after reinstatement. Most drivers also need an SR-22 for 2 years from the start of the suspension or revocation; a first suspension for a driver under 21 with a BAC of .02% or more is an exception. [2]
