How to get your license reinstated in Arkansas

Checked against official Arkansas sources · Last reviewed October 6, 2026

Getting a suspended Arkansas license back means meeting the requirements for each suspension order, paying every reinstatement fee, and, after some convictions, having your insurer file proof of financial responsibility. The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) Office of Driver Services handles reinstatement. [1][2]

Step by step

  1. Settle any uninsured crash

After a crash without insurance, DFA accepts several ways to meet financial responsibility. They include proof of insurance, a security deposit, a signed release from the other party, a court finding that you weren't liable, or an installment agreement all parties accept. DFA's Safety Responsibility office is at (501) 682-7100. [3]

  2. Deal with any unpaid crash judgment

You can ask the court that issued the judgment to let you pay in installments. Driver Services restores your license while you have that order, give proof of financial responsibility, and stay current. A missed payment brings a new suspension until the judgment is paid. [4]

  3. Have your insurer file proof, if required

Arkansas law says that if your license was suspended or revoked because of a conviction or a forfeited bail, you can't get it back until you file and keep proof of financial responsibility. Ask Driver Services whether this applies to your suspension. Your insurer files a certificate with the Office of Driver Services. If you don't own a vehicle, an operator's policy can cover you. [1][5]

  4. Pay every reinstatement fee

Arkansas law charges $100 for each administrative order that suspended, revoked, or cancelled your license. A suspension from a conviction costs $100 for each separate date of offenses. DWI and refusal suspensions have their own $150 fee. [2][6][7]

  5. Get a reinstatement letter

DFA's online Reinstatement Letter service gives you a letter from the Office of Driver Services. It confirms you have met the requirements to reinstate after a suspension or revocation. [8]

After a DWI arrest or refusal

  1. Request a hearing within 7 days, if you want one

You have 7 calendar days to contest the administrative suspension, using DFA's online hearing request form. If you had a valid license when arrested, you can drive for 30 days on the receipt the officer gives you. An uncontested hearing can decide if you qualify for an interlock restricted license or a restricted driving permit. [9][10]

  2. Finish the required programs

After an alcohol-related DWI, you must complete a state-approved drug and alcohol education or treatment program and attend a Victim Impact Panel. You send the completion certificates to Driver Control. A refusal also requires the Victim Impact Panel. [7][11]

  3. Install an ignition interlock

After an alcohol-related DWI, you must have an ignition interlock in your vehicle for as long as your license was suspended. [7]

  4. Pay the $150 fee and retest if revoked

Pay the $150 reinstatement fee at any State Revenue Office, by mail, or online at mydmv.arkansas.gov. If your license status is revoked, you must pass all parts of the Arkansas driver license exam. [7][11]
