How we check facts
SR-22 rules vary by state and change often. Many sites repeat old figures. We publish a fact only after reading it in an official source.
Where the figures come from
Every duration, fee, and coverage minimum on this site comes from one of three kinds of source, and is linked to it:
- the state driver licensing agency's own pages and forms (DMV, DPS, MVD, or similar)
- the state's statutes
- the state's administrative regulations
Insurance company and blog pages help us find leads, but we never publish a figure that only they report.
What "not confirmed" means
When we couldn't find an official source for something, we say so instead of guessing. Some states simply don't publish it. In those cases, ask the state agency named on the page.
When sources disagree
Agency pages sometimes lag behind new laws. When a statute and an agency page conflict, we note it and generally follow the current statute.
How current it is
Each state page shows when it was last reviewed. We recheck every state at least once a year, and sooner when a state changes its law.
Spotted an error?
If a figure is wrong or out of date, email web@sr22state.com with the state and, if you have it, a link to the official source. We review every report.
Not legal advice
This site is general information, not legal advice. Your situation may have exceptions. Confirm with your state's agency or a lawyer before you act.
